  1. Atrial electrical activation inscribes a P wave on the EKG and is followed by atrial contraction.
  2. After a pause called the PR interval, when the atria empty their contents across the atrioventricular valves into the ventricles, electrical activation of the ventricles inscribes a QRS complex on the EKG.
  3. The QRS complex indicates the timing of ventricular depolarization down specialized His bundle and left and right bundle branches, which is followed by ventricular contraction.
